About FOI requests

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives individuals the right to access recorded information held by public sector organisations, provided it is not exempt from disclosure. Anyone can request information – there are no restrictions on your age, nationality or where you live.

FOI requests are only dealt with through this process if they are not included within the organisation’s Publication Scheme.

FOI statistics for year 2024-25

In 2024-25 there were 75 requests under the Freedom of Information Act for information that is not readily available, this was an increase of 20 compared to the number of requests received last year (55). No complaint about the way these requests were handled was made to the Information Commissioner.

How to make an FOI request

You should make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request in writing to FoI@valuationtribunal.gov.uk.

We will help you as much as possible and will need you to include:

  • clear and understandable details so we can locate the information;
  • your name and address so we can respond; and
  • an indication about the format in which you want the information.

Your application will be dealt with as quickly as possible and we will respond within 20 working days, as specified in the FOI Act.
